Still sick and waiting...

Well, we are now at the two week mark for this cold/virus/flue thing Sam has had. It's strange that even during the crappiest two weeks, when all you have done is sat on the couch with a sick child in your lap, locked indoors, the time has seemed to fly by. First Sam had the virus and because this stupid thing takes forever to leave it settles in and after about a week we took him in and found out there was bronchitis and an ear infection too so he took his antibiotic for that and he finally started to seem like he was getting somewhat better (not as much snot and sleeping through the night) but that only lasted a day because that next day (the day after he was done with his antibiotic) it started all over again. Up until the middle of the night this morning, ever since last Thursday, he had a constant fever again of about 103 and the congestion started all over again. His doctor said it wasn't the infection because the antibiotic took care of that and are still in his system but that antibiotics don't take care of viruses so he must have just got another virus on top of it. Ugh. It's been so annoying.
It wouldn't be as bad if I wasn't sick at the same time but this thing has hit me hard too and I've had it for about a week and a half and didn't finally start feeling some sort of relief until last night. When I do get sick I usually don't keep whatever it is for long, but the harshness of this virus going around mixed with the fact that I am pregnant and only have about half the use of my normal immune system, it is just lingering. I can breathe a tiny bit easier through my nose but my cough seems to be settling more into my chest, which is painful and uncomfortable, so I'm hoping that doesn't mean I have an infection. I'm going to give it a couple more days and see how I feel. If my doctor was here in town I'd probably get it checked out, for the fact that everyone else that has had it seems to have developed some sort of infection, but I don't want to drive an hour and a half if I don't need to.
Dave is sick too and still plugging along, going to work and stuff, but it hasn't hit him as hard as Sam and I, luckily. I just really really pray and hope this thing goes away soon, especially by Friday when Grandpa comes! Mostly I am just so incredibly sick of sitting on my butt in this stuffy sick-infested house for the last two weeks strait. It will be liberating when this thing is finally gone and things can get back to normal!
I do know, even though I have been complaining, that we are truly blessed! There are people going through a lot worse, health-wise, with their families and kids, and I can only feel overwhelmingly grateful that the Lord has blessed us with what he has and the health that we do have! I can't even thank Him enough!
A funny example of what we have had to deal with this last couple weeks... On Saturday morning Sam wouldn't eat anything as usual (he has had NO appetite these last couple weeks) but I decided to force something down him so I took a tiny piece of the scrambled eggs I was eating and as soon as he started to swallow a little fraction of that piece he started gagging and threw up ALL OVER himself, me, the floor, our new couch... As I ran with him into the bathroom he was puked again on the way and again when we walked in the bathroom door so I sat him in the tub fully clothed so he could finish and when he was done it was so sad...he just looked up at me all sad-like with piles of puke all over himself and his clothes. Poor baby. And all he would ingest the couple days before that was milk so it had curdled in his stomach and so the throw-up looked like piles of large curd cottage cheese. And the smell made me gag and I almost threw up. It was so sick and so hard to clean up! Anyway....about an hour later when I finally had both of us showered, the carpet cleaned, our new couch cleaned, our clothes scrubbed out and in the washer, and the bathtub cleaned out, Dave came home from golfing and decided it still smelled really bad (my sense of smell hasn't been that strong because of how plugged up I have been) so he took the compartment off of our carpet cleaner (we love our Little Green Machine!) that keeps all the nasty old water and he was going to empty it so he could re-clean the carpet, and he accidentally dumped it upside down ALL OVER the carpet and linoleum. Now, this stuff REEKS so BAD....so now the smell of rotten old milk mixed with what smelled like old dead animals permeated throughout the whole house so strongly I couldn't even stand it! Anyway, it took him at least an hour just to clean the floor, and re-clean and re-clean it until it actually smelled decent again. It was a gross and smelly and long morning, but finally everything smells good again and is perfectly clean....thanks to our carpet cleaner. I'm so glad we decided to get that thing...
Well, this last two weeks of boredom has given me the opportunity to read Twilight again and I'm glad I did because there was a lot of little things about it I had forgotten and I actually loved it even more the second time through! Now I'm already to see the movie. Except, now I'm even more worried that because I remember it more thoroughly I will be even more disappointed in the movie. Oh well...gotta keep an open mind. I was only planning on reading Twilight again but now that I'm done with it, I find myself wanting to read the whole series again. We'll see...I guess if I have spare time. :)
I did start reading Clear as the Moon last night, vol. 6 to the Great and the Terrible but I know I will get through that quickly also!
Well, one thing that has had me a little cheered is that it is starting to feel somewhat a little like fall here in the desert. Yes, we don't have the freezing temperatures and the beautiful gold, red, and orange leaves covering the trees (which I am SO sad about), but there have been a few days here and there where it has been a little colder and the last few days we have only had to have our AC on for a few minutes in the late afternoon! Also, we have kind of fallen out of the habit of watering our lawn (call it business, laziness, whatever...) and so the dead leaves covering our backyard dead lawn makes me feel a little more at home. :)

It's a BOY!

Yes, I was a little surprised. I have to admit that I had such strong feelings it was a girl in there...Dave did too, though he didn't want to admit it. So, of course, he got what he was hoping for, and is EXTATIC! And of course, I am too! My only reservations are, how in the world do I trust my intuition again?? A girl felt so right...I just sensed the female-ness (not a word, I know...) in there. Weird, huh? With Sam we knew it was a boy and we were right... I guess this time was different in the sense that I wasn't going around claiming it was a girl because I was allowing room for the fact that it could still be a boy, though I would be surprised. So maybe in the back of my mind I knew it wasn't really a girl the whole time. Or maybe it was just wishful thinking...who knows. :)

I am actually pretty darn excited about it though. It's so crazy how differently my thoughts changed direction! When I was watching the monitor and she started moving it in the "hoo-hoo" area, I could immediately see it was a boy before she even said anything and the more we looked, and the more there was absolutely no questioning what it was, I felt so good about it. So I had gone from feeling strongly and right about it being a girl, into feeling so strongly and right that it was a boy in a matter of under a minute! I know it's right and it feels really good. I was wanting a girl SO bad, but oddly enough, when I knew it was a boy, the first feeling I felt was relief for some reason. Almost as if I knew that having a boy would have been right the whole time. Granted, part of the relief comes with the fact that I am sooo excited that I won't have to buy more clothes and baby things because we already have everything! Also, the kids are going to have to share rooms and it is a lot less awkward if they're both boys. It will also be so exciting for Sam to have a little brother to romp on!

I just love little guys so much so I just get so excited when I think about having another one. I actually can't picture myself even having a girl, though I know there is one out there for me...it's just that right now is not the time for her. But when it is, I will be THRILLED!

What will baby Joshua's (that's the name we are pretty set on) personality be like? Will he look like Sam, or completely different? I am so anxious to know these things because it's so hard for me to picture how it will be to have another boy when I am so used to just Sam! It's all very exciting to me! I just hope and pray that I can raise good strong boys to become good, strong, and righteous men!

*Sigh* So, when the day comes for frilly dresses and cute bows I will be over-joyed....but I can be patient for that day. :)

The baby is doing excellent in every other way, as far as they can tell, and so am I. The pregnancy is going smoothly and the baby is growing and developing normally, keeping right on time with the same due date of Feb. 14. One thing I have noticed is that he is definitely more active than Sam ever was when I was pregnant with him. He seems to constantly be on the move, punching and kicking me everywhere, and I'm sure it will get much worse as I get farther along. Especially when I lay on my back or sit down and lean back in any way. During the whole ultrasound he wouldn't sit still for a second. It was sure cool though to be able to feel him and then see on the monitor at the same time exactly what he was doing to cause the blows inside of me and how he was positioned. She was able to get him to give a high five by bouncing on my belly up and down, which he didn't like. I got many more pictures, besides the one at the beginning of this post, of hands, feet, arms, thighs, etc. If you can't tell in the picture, the bum in on the right side (it's from looking at an angle underneath him) and his thighs go out to the right, with his male parts in the middle. :)

Sorry about the lengthiness of this post...
Anyway, we took Sam to the dr. right before my appointment yesterday because he wasn't seeming to get better even after a week, and hearing what this stupid virus did to other kids in this town, it worried me. So, come to find out, because he had it for so long, it settled in his chest and ear and now he has an ear infection and a mild case of bronchitis (I'm glad we caught it before it got worse!). So this explains a lot! I'm grateful we went because now he is on an antibiotic and already seems to be going a little better...

Better to the point where he was able to play outside today again. I heard him dragging something in the kitchen and when I went in to look he had dragged almost half the garden hose inside the kitchen, all around the table, causing water to be everywhere, of course. It was hilarious...it's times like that where I know why I want to have more kids... :)

Sam was so upset when we went right from his doctor (he cried the whole time at his doctor, cuz the way he remembers him is as the "shot man") to my doctor. Every time I lay on that table he gets so upset and scared for mommy. I have to reassure him the whole time. We thought at the beginning of the ultrasound that it'd be a problem and Dave would have to take him out, but it was funny because he calmed down when Dave stood in front of the big screen TV they had on the wall, showing the ultrasound video, and said over and over again, "Sam, lets watch this show of the baby." It immediately calmed him down and the whole rest of the long time we were in there Sam kept saying, "Show, show." The ultrasound tech couldn't believe how good Dave was with him at calming him down. She told him at the end how excellent of a father he was. :)

Well, now that Sam's getting better finally, I wish I would start getting better! I felt like the sickness was subsiding a little yesterday, but I feel even worse today! Last night was miserable and today all I can seem to do is lay around! Thank goodness Sam has been better today than he has all week.

I'm so excited for Halloween! Sam is going to be a dragon...that is, if the costume fits him. I need to try it on him to make sure. I have been letting him carry around his pumpkin trick-or-treat bucket all week so he can get used to it and I am trying to teach him the halloween terms, like "trick-or-treat," but all he can say as of right now is "pumpkin." So hopefully by Halloween he will have it down. I'm just excited he can actually get a little more into it this year! Last year was miserable! Anyway, we have a community Halloween party thingy on Saturday the 25th (and Grandpa will be here for that...yay!!) and then the ward party/trunk-or-treat is on Wed. the 29th (the Y.W. are helping out with that), and then for actual Halloween, our plan is to go to the Valley and spend it with Brand and Tiff, our long lost friends we haven't seen in too long! And hopefully we will be able to get some trick-or-treating in with Sam then!

What a crazy week...

This week hasn't been fun in the least. Sam got sick Monday with one of the worst viruses he has ever had. I'm sure it's the same one that has been going around to everyone here in Bagdad and causing lots of infections, etc. Anyway, it has been very slow to leave, but finally this morning he doesn't have as bad of a fever anymore and his eyes weren't as glued shut as they have been in the mornings...so I guess that's progress. But he is still miserable and won't let me leave his side. So I have been home with my little one all week and to make matters even more wonderful, I started getting it last night too. What makes it even more fun is I can't take any of the good medicine to make myself feel better because I'm pregnant. Oh well. At least I won't be as miserable as Sam because at least I know how to blow my nose....

Anyway, here are a couple pictures of our miserable boy from yesterday. You got to love the snot stains on his shirt... okay, well, maybe you don't, but if you are a mother you understand. :)

I also finally posted a prego picture of myself at the beginning of my post. The pregnancy is going very well and I am so blessed, so I can't really complain...but I am going to anyway. :) Everything is going great, including the fact that it has been kicking the crap out of me and both Dave and Sam have felt it kick many many times, but I am already starting to feel the uncomfortable aches and pains that come along with the end of your third trimester, which sucks, because I'm still in my second. Sleeping is a nightmare, even with pillows surrounding my body, and the worst thing is knowing how much worse it's going to get as I get bigger and bigger. Remembering the end of my pregnancy with Sam doesn't give me much hope.

But I'm done whining about that now. Good news now...on Monday we find out what we're having finally! Yay! We will keep you all updated... :)

Conference was last weekend and it was so good and uplifting! My favorite talk was by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland during the second session about angels and how they are always with us. It was so wonderful and spoke right to my heart. I was so overcome with the spirit during that talk and I am so grateful for these times of year when we can hear from our inspired leaders!

During the priesthood session Saturday night a bunch of us women got together with our kids at Destiny Bolinger's house (well, it was really just her, Becky Brimhall, Christa Johnson, and me, but with all the kids it felt like a bunch of us). Despite some crazy kids, a very clingy son, and a couple episodes with Sarah and Zorro (the Bolinger's dog...hehe), it was so much fun! We had turkey sandwiches and desert, vedged and talk about Twilight (of course) and played some card games. Sam didn't let me enjoy the games too long but I still had fun. Then after the priesthood session the men came over and we all hung out there for a little while longer. The men supposedly had a wonderful dutch oven dinner before the session too, along with some "really good" cherry pie they wouldn't stop talking about...

Anyway, here's a picture of all of us playing spoons....well, trying anyway. Thanks for the picture Christa. :)

So this morning Dave had a run-in with a cactus. I knew that living in the desert in AZ this was bound to happen sometime. He was quail hunting with Tyrone Sipes and as they were heading down a hill, he was trying to get out of the way of one cactus, and somehow ended up falling into another one. It's almost funny to think about because he isn't usually so...careless! His pants were completely covered in needles and he had to pick some out of his legs but unfortunately one big one broke off in his thigh. It was sending pain down his whole leg and he couldn't walk so he and Tyrone come home this morning and he is sitting at the table with a knife (he couldn't find the scalpel we had...and no, I'm not lying...we do have one somewhere), about to dig into his own thigh to get it out. Well, after to listening to us (and what I like to think was the spirit) he decided not to. That, and he didn't want to pass out from the pain because he didn't know how deep it was or how much he'd have to dig. Anyway, he ended up going into the clinic here in town and the dr. on call had to numb him and perform minor surgery to get it out. It had gone deep and strait down into his thigh muscle! So now that that's taken care of, and it only being a few minute procedure, we will probably be out about 500-600$!! Gees...and to think that he was even thinking of calling Tyrone and cancelling this morning...

Anyway, here is a picture I just took of him and Sam on the couch resting. Poor Sam is so miserable and is in so much pain. This look on his face has been his permanent face for this whole morning.

I also had the chance this week to finally finish the Host by Stephenie Meyer. It took me much longer to get through that one, but I loved it! And as soon as I can get to the Valley again, around a Deseret Book, I am going to be buying vol. 6 of the Great and the Terrible, as that came out last week and I am dying to read it!

I just wanted to post two other pictures. The first one is of Dave reading to Sam outside. It was the first day he got sick so it hadn't hit him as hard. The second one is also of Sam's first day of being sick. He felt bad, but we were at least able to get a smile out of him...and a dang cute one it is too. :)

Well, this last picture is just of a really weird leaf bug that was on our wall outside. I know I post pictures of bugs a lot it seems but AZ has such weird ones that I can't pass up! I had heard of these bugs before, but never actually seen one and it is actually pretty cool! It looks exactly like a leaf in every way!!

That's it for now. I will post again on Monday when I can break the news of what we are having!

"The Office" Public Service Announcements

Check this out...absolutely love it... :)

Conference

This last weekend was the Relief Society General Conference Broadcast and I just wanted to comment on how wonderful it was! I look forward to it every year and I just love hearing from our Relief Society General Presidency! I love those women and they always have such inspiring words! The talk that was the best for me though was Elder Uchtdorf's. I loved how he focused on creation and compassion. I had never thought about creation in that aspect before and that we need to utilize that ability as God's daughters as well. I love this time of year when I can be uplifted as a woman and feel so loved by these leaders of our church! I am so grateful that I can be a woman and a daughter of God and be a part of the wonderful organization of Relief Society!

We had a ward activity right before the broadcast also. It was a dinner/service auction and our Enrichment leaders did an excellent job at putting everything together! I had no idea there was so much talent in the ward either! :) There were some awesome services that got auctioned off and I wished I had more tootsie rolls (money) so I could have gotten more! :) I did however get one of the best ones...a free babysitting job from the Sipes! Hopefully, Dave will want to utilize it the same way I do...a date night. :) Anyway, Christa and Destiny, we missed you!

I am very excited for this weekend when we can hear from our church leaders again! I love how fast every six months seems to come! Conference is truly my favorite times of the year and I hope I can have my heart prepared enough at that time so I can get the messages I need to hear!

I'm Back!

Well, I have been back since Sunday night, so I figure I should probably update. Idaho was so much fun! It was so nice to go back and to be in weather that wasn't scorching hot! I miss it there. I do have to admit, though, that I do not miss Rexburg specifically - Idaho, yes...Rexburg, no. Anyway, besides the busy weekend of the blessing, we didn't do much. We pretty much just hung out with Braxton, Cindi, and Aaron all week and watched the Office reruns. :) Can't complain there. It was so nice just to relax with them and I miss them so much! I wish we could live closer to them.

That baby Aaron is just so amazingly cute! I miss him so much! He was so fun to cuddle and hold and kiss. The blessing was great and he looked so cute in his blessing outfit! It was a good weekend. There was a lot of family and friends around and we had a good time together!

I got to see lots of old friends and family while we were there too, which was nice. I saw the Andreasens, the Holidays, Jessica, Erin, The Bartons, Grandma Mary...it goes on and on. I also got to go back into my old workplace, Melaleuca, because Braxton works there now (Cindi, Aaron, Sam, and I brought him lunch one day). It was...interesting. Not only does it look completely different in there but it seems a lot has changed since I left a year and a half ago! Wow! I can't believe it's been that long!! It was nice to see old friends and co-workers that still work there, though!

We also stopped in Provo on the way there and on the way back and stayed with John and Micha and baby Coltharp-to-be so that we didn't have to do the whole 13 hour drive in one day. Not only would Sam have been a nightmare, but the baby inside me didn't like the driving too much either. I'm so glad we got to stop there though, because that made me able to see everyone in my family, since they were the only ones that couldn't come to the blessing!

Sam did exceptionally well in the car (he has always been so good at road trips!), probably due to the fact that we're so used to driving far distances because of where we live. He didn't get much sleep while we were in Idaho and that was difficult on me...and him...especially at the end of the trip. It was a nice vacation and we had a great time but we are happy to be back and be with our husband/daddy again. We missed him so much! Sam was so excited when we came home and he saw his daddy again for the first time!

Dave was so sweet. Not only was I surprised by our beautiful new couch he bought while I was gone, but he also had roses all over the house for me too. I love my husband so much! He is such a good man and such a good husband and father!

We are also very excited for the Holidays that they had their little baby girl, Addison Ella. She was much earlier than expected but I'm glad that Jillian can start feeling better and the baby is doing great, so I hear! Congratulations to them!

Things are progressing well in my pregnancy. Like I have mentioned before, I am huge, but because everything is happening a lot faster with this one, I also started feeling it moving around a LOT sooner, which was fun. It's moving around all the time and is actually pretty feisty. It doesn't like it at all when I do anything where I am tightening my stomach muscles. It will kick me fiercely every time. It seems I have to watch what I do a lot more with this one than I did with Sam. Sam seemed to be okay with whatever I was doing. :) It's gone by so fast and I can't believe I am already halfway through. I am so excited to have it already and it can't come soon enough, though! We are going to find out what the sex is at our next appt. when I am 22 weeks, so we will keep everyone posted (though Dave and I both already have our inclinations to what we feel it is :)

I finished reading the draft of Midnight Sun that Stephenie Meyer posted on her website, thinking it would satisfy my craving for it, but all it did was make me want to read it more! It is unfinished so I should have known it would be that way, but I couldn't help but read what was available. It was SO good! It goes hand in hand with Twilight so well! I absolutely love hearing Edward's point of view...it gives you such a different perspective on the story and what's behind Edward's thoughts. Not to mention, it shows a much more vulnerable side of him that only makes him more endearing... :) It was amazing and I am craving more! So all I can do is hope that Stephenie Meyer eventually has the desire to finish it again, though I do completely understand why she wouldn't. I am crossing my fingers!

So the other day when Sam had been coloring he came up to me eating something and I looked in his hand and he has eaten half of his red large crayon!!! Paper and all! His mouth was totally red and I wish I got a picture. Thank goodness they are non-toxic. It is amazing to me that he wont eat normal food very much (I'm waiting for that stage to end...), but he will eat a disgusting wax crayon, no questions asked...

Here are some pictures. Unfortunately, I didn't take more than one picture when I was in Idaho, even though I had my camera with me the whole time. I am usually pretty good about that, but I just didn't think about it much. So thankfully, I have some pictures that Cindi and my mom took...

This was on Sunday before church. Heather and Jonah stayed with Sam and I at Grandma's and both Jonah and Sam feel asleep on the couch watching Sponge Bob. Jonah is hard to see in his dark suit on the blue couch...CUTE boys!

Cindi and Aaron...the cuddly ball of baby....

Me and my boy...

Aaron in his new swing...

Grandma and two crying grand kids, Sam and Ayla...

Cute Aaron in his blessing outfit!

Me and cuddly ball of baby! Don't mind the way I look.... I think I was watching the Office or something...

Me and Aaron and Sam...he got jealous a LOT. :) He will have to get used to it...

CUTEST picture of Aaron! I want to squeeze him!

Mom and all her five grand kids...Jonah, Aaron, Alexa, Sam, and Ayla.

Sam and Grandma!

The roses Dave had for me when I got home (after I gathered them from around the house, of course!)...

Here is a picture of our new couch in our living room! Dave spent the time to rearrange everything so that it would fit too. It was all done when I came home! I love the couch! Not only does it look nicer but we all love relaxing on it...even Sam!

Sam arranging his cars in a line on the TV stand. He loves lining them all up. He does it with his crayons too...and everything else. :)

I know I still need to post a picture of me pregnant, and I will...soon. As soon as I feel "presentable" I will take one! :)
